WE ARE BODYWORKERS

WE ARE BODYWORKERS

We are bodyworkers who are passionate about our work. We believe that the rigor of our times requires a commitment to continually return to our sensory experiences; that by deepening the experience of our bodies, we deepen our experience of the world to which we belong. We believe that somatic practices such as bodywork are an essential response to a humanity that is in need of being more in-touch with its humanness and with the environments that we inhabit.

WE BELIEVE

We believe that awareness is medicine, and by approaching bodywork in a mindful way, we might cultivate conditions that allow a keen responsiveness to the somatic dialogue with our clients. This approach, combined with the unique methodology of Sarga Bodywork, allows for a distinctively transformative and healing therapy.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide a distinctively transformative and healing therapy, while offering the techniques and materials to help inspire our fellow bodyworkers to resource their innate creativity in ways that are mindful, safe, minimally strenuous and fabulously efficient.

In case you’re wondering, Jivatma Massaguer is my real given name; I wasn’t renamed by an Indian guru, nor was my surname coined to fit my profession ;-) I was given my name by my mother who moved to India from Europe in the early 80’s, and “Massaguer” translates to “saw mill”, perhaps indicating a few tradesmen in my Spanish ancestry.

I was born and raised in Auroville, an international community in South India founded on the spiritual principles of human unity. I was introduced to massage, healing arts, Yoga, and other somatic practices at a young age by my mother and my surrounding community. As a little girl my hands were often soothing people’s aches and pains, and at 19 I took my first training in Ayurvedic massage. But it wasn’t until 2007 during my first visit to Hawaii that I considered bodywork as a possible career. Later that year, I graduated from the Maui School of Therapeutic Massage under the guidance of James Hackett. Since then Hawaii has been my second home and I have built a full-time bodywork practice while teaching, learning and collaborating with therapists around the world.

I have trained in various massage techniques including Swedish massage, Deep Tissue, Sports, NMT, Lomilomi, Shiatsu, Ashiatsu, Thai massage and Structural Integration. However the demands of a full private practice and a repetitive-use injury, combined with lots of creativity, a commitment to intelligent body mechanics, and a passion for Yoga and conscious movement, motivated me to explore the dynamic power of foot-based bodywork. It is from these inspirations that I developed and co-founded Sarga Bodywork™.

Along with bodywork, my interests lie in other forms of body-centered and wellness practices that explore somatic awareness as a means to inspiring vital health through conscious movement, exercise, and self-care. I am continually grateful that I have the opportunity to share my passion and creativity with all of you!

The body has infinite wisdom. There is nothing we need to learn, all we need to do is remember how to listen.

Born and raised in Hawai’i, as a kid I discovered a connection to the island ecology that remains my most reliable reference to basic sanity. Building on this relationship, I spent the first several years of my adult life living and working in some of Hawai’i’s most remote places, including the uninhabited islands and atolls of the Northwestern Hawaiian archipelago. My experiences as a field biologist in these places have helped to form my understanding of the endless beauty that arises from healthy ecosystems. While my appreciation of ecological patterns continues to inform my life, my undying intrigue with our species’ tenuous reputation on the planet has incurably blurred the margin between the observer and the observed. The endless source of inspiration emerging from these margins has most effectively made me a student of the human body, and I have come to fancy it as both hologram and metaphor of the cosmos at large.

My interest in bodywork began in 2009 with Hawaiian Lomilomi, which emphasizes practitioners' cultivation of awareness as precedent to manual manipulation. With this basic approach I have been given the creative ability to call from a variety of tools, including use of the feet to boldly transfer gravitational force.

It is with a natural faith in our collective spirit and a keen curiosity about the experience of being human that I hope to inspire health and creativity in others.

There are many ways to resource our innate regenerative abilities, but in a culture that is often distanced from a sensational experience of our bodies, a somatic approach to healing is increasingly vital.
